The PT -IR Wire has been used in "non-standard" thermocouples, electrical contacts, and electrodes in medical research. This alloy is harder than platinum and has stronger mechanical strength.
This PT -IR Wire is composed of 90% platinum and 10% iridium, and is widely used in the assembly of microelectrode probes. Iridium, a platinum group metal, is very dense and hard, increasing the strength of the wire.

The 90/10 platinum iridium alloy with 10% iridium has good all-round manufacturing characteristics: it can be cast, welded, machined, stamped; it is ductile and ductile; it can be hardened by work; and it is not easy to oxidize
Some uses of platinum-iridium alloys include pacemakers used to treat heart diseases that cause slow or irregular heart rates. Pacemakers usually contain at least two platinum-iridium electrodes through which electrical pulses are delivered to stabilize the heartbeat.
Other uses of platinum-iridium alloys include electrical contacts, spark plugs, electric explosive devices, medical wires and electrodes, thermistors, catalytic applications, jewelry, pen nibs, surgical needles or pivots, and kilogram and meter standards used by weight and metrology departments .
